Liquor lovers making a beeline for the liquor shops at Khanapara (on the Meghalaya side of the area) and along the stretch upto Jorabat on Saturday. Liquor shops in this area have been doing business amounting to crores of rupees since the past couple of days, ever since the Gauhati High Court passed an order on August 9 that wine shops and bars in Kamrup (metro) district in Assam, situated within a radius of 500 metres of educational institutions, religious places, healthcare centres and other similar buildings should be closed down. A large number of wine shops and bars were closed down after the order was passed and will remain closed till August 24 when the next hearing in this case will take place. (Sentinel)
